Le réalisateur américain J.J. Abrams, qui a collaboré jusque là avec le compositeur Michael Giacchino (SUPER 8, STAR TREK...) fait appel pour ce 7ème épisode de STAR WARS à John Williams qui retrouve ainsi la saga qu'il a initiée avec ses célèbres thèmes. Le compositeur joue la carte de la nostalgie. Le retour de Han Solo (Harrison Ford) permet à John Williams de convoquer les anciens thèmes pour évoquer le souvenir du personnage. En revanche, pas de nouveau thème marquant dans ce nouvel opus.
