Avec le film de Wolfgang Petersen, James Newton Howard nous démontre ses talents de compositeur de musique d'action, genre qu'il exploite à merveille ici en donnant à 'Outbreak' un rythme trépidant. On y retrouve les recettes orchestrales habituelles, couplées à quelques synthétiseurs et quelques percussions exotiques évoquant les origines africaines du virus mortel.
